RMT Training is pleased to celebrate another successful candidate who has completed their IMI Level 2 MOT Tester Training and Assessment at our IMI Approved Training Centre in Oswestry, Shropshire.
What makes this particular success especially rewarding is that it represents the completion of a training pathway that began at RMT just five weeks earlier.
The candidate initially attended RMT to complete the IMI Accredited Light Vehicle Inspection Technician training and assessment. After successfully gaining this accreditation, they returned to RMT five weeks later to undertake the next stage of their development – MOT Tester Training for Classes 4 & 7.
Having now successfully completed both stages, the candidate gave excellent feedback about their experience at RMT on both occasions, which is particularly pleasing for our training team.
A Route into MOT Testing for Experienced Technicians
Becoming an MOT Tester requires candidates to meet specific eligibility requirements, including appropriate experience and an accepted qualification or accreditation.
For experienced technicians who do not already hold one of the required qualifications, the IMI Accredited Light Vehicle Inspection Technician route can provide an alternative pathway towards meeting the technical qualification requirement for MOT Tester training, subject to the relevant DVSA eligibility requirements.
At RMT, being able to provide both stages means we can help suitable technicians progress through the process at the same training centre, with continuity between their initial vehicle inspection training and subsequent MOT Tester qualification.
In this case, the candidate was able to return just five weeks after completing their Inspection Technician accreditation and continue their development with a team and training environment they already knew.

Practical, Hands-On MOT Tester Training
RMT’s approach to automotive training places a strong emphasis on practical, hands-on learning.
Our MOT Tester course combines the underpinning knowledge required of an MOT Tester with practical activities carried out using vehicles and professional MOT testing equipment.
Candidates have the opportunity to develop their knowledge and practical skills within a working automotive environment rather than relying solely on classroom-based learning.
The course covers key areas associated with MOT testing, including test procedures, standards and responsibilities, use of the MOT Testing Service, vehicle inspection techniques and practical assessment.
Training takes place at RMT’s automotive training facility in Oswestry, where candidates have access to dedicated classroom facilities alongside our practical workshop and MOT testing equipment.

Supporting Automotive Technicians at Different Stages
This latest candidate’s progression demonstrates something that is becoming increasingly important to RMT Training: providing clear development routes for working automotive technicians.
Not everybody arrives with the same qualifications, experience or training needs. Where appropriate, we can help prospective candidates understand the available route and identify the training or accreditation they may need before progressing further.
Alongside MOT Tester and Inspection Technician training, RMT delivers practical technical training across areas including automotive diagnostics, ADAS calibration, air conditioning and F-Gas, wheel alignment, automatic transmission fluid servicing, wheel and tyre service, and MOT annual training and assessment.
