Diagnostic Training

Course Details

Delivered in collaboration with PicoScope and MAHLE Brain Bee Workshop Solutions, our diagnostic training courses provide essential skills and knowledge for effective vehicle fault diagnosis. Training is offered at two levels: Intermediate and Advanced and will be delivered at RMT HQ in Oswestry.

Course Content

Applicable across both Intermediate and Advanced levels (not limited to):

  • Symptoms, faults and Causes
  • Effective customer questioning techniques
  • Electrical fundamentals and core principles
  • Multimeter usage for diagnostics
  • Diagnostic scan tool operation
  • Interpretation of DTCs and live data
  • Actuator tests
  • Understanding and testing sensors and actuators
  • Utilising wiring diagrams and Technical Data
  • Component initialisation, calibration, and remote diagnostics
  • Advanced oscilloscope techniques for in-depth analysis

Intermediate Diagnostic Techniques

Qualification Reference: RMTIDT
Duration: 2 Days
Course Code: RMTIDT
Trainer: Jason Smith
Price: £550 + VAT

Overview:
This course equips learners with a solid understanding of fault diagnosis and rectification in electronically controlled light vehicle management systems, with a strong emphasis on real-world scenarios.

Rather than isolating system diagnostics (e.g. Auxiliary Electrics, Chassis, Transmission, Engine Management), this unit promotes an integrated, holistic approach. Learners will explore how modern vehicle systems interconnect and apply diagnostic techniques that reflect everyday workshop challenges.

A focus is also placed on technologies and components shared across systems, helping to build adaptable and transferable diagnostic skills.

Advanced Diagnostic Techniques

Qualification Reference: RMTADT
Duration: 2 Days
Course Code: RMTADT
Trainer: Jason Smith
Price: £550 + VAT

Overview:
This advanced course builds on foundational skills and delves deeper into the diagnosis and rectification of faults in light vehicle management systems. Learners will work with oscilloscopes, guided diagnostics, and waveform libraries. Remote diagnostics will also be demonstrated where relevant.

The course maintains the holistic approach to diagnostics, recognising the integration and complexity of modern vehicle systems. It enhances learners’ understanding of shared technologies and supports the development of advanced, flexible diagnostic competencies.
